Welcome

Welcome to my online campaign center!

In just a few years in Congress, I have made miraculous strides to improve the quality life for the people of the 43rd Congressional District and beyond.

I have secured important federal funding for the community, including education, transportation, and law enforcement projects for the 43rd Congressional District.

From 2001-2007, I secured $26,973,750 in federal support. For FY 2008, I secured an additional $4,650,000 in federal assistance.

In my years in Congress, I have always fought to protect our working families and children, giving them the tools they need to lead a successful life.

This Congress, I have continued to work for all Americans. I have supported legislation:
--To expand the SCHIP program, which provides health insurance to ten million American children who are currently uninsured.
--To cut the interest rates in student loans in half and increase federal student aid to our college students by $20 billion over the next 5 years.
--To give tens of thousands of more children access to Head Start programs every year.

I believe it is important that we all do what we can to protect the civil rights and dignity of all Americans. To that end, I have supported key initiatives that protect the civil and human rights of all Americans:
--Passed Hate Crimes Prevention and Protection Legislation
--Worked to eliminate predatory lending and keep more families in their homes during the current foreclosure crisis.
--Worked to preserve affordable housing through the Section 8 Voucher Program, which provides affordable housing for over 32,000 people in San Bernardino alone.

Worked to increase access to community and faith-based grants that can provide important assistance to families and individuals in need.

I have worked to make sure America keeps its promises to America’s veterans. This year, we have passed legislation that provides for the largest increase in Veterans’ healthcare and benefits ever.

We have raised the minimum wage across the nation to make sure all Americans who work hard earn a decent wage to provide for their families.

I have been a strong advocate for nutrition. I helped author the nutrition section of the Farm Bill which provided nutrition benefits to 13 million American families, including increased benefits for children, veterans, disabled adults, African Americans, Native Americans, and Hispanics.

I continue to oppose the President’s misguided war in Iraq, and have consistently voted in favor of responsible troop withdrawal.

Congress has also passed historic legislation to provide millions of dollars in funding to minority serving institutions, such as Historically Black Colleges, Hispanic Serving Institutions, and Tribal Colleges.

I have also maintained an aggressive outreach program that includes workshops, summits, and forums that have brought about awareness on a number of issues and concerns important to local residents.

While we have made miraculous strides, we still have much more work ahead.

I will continue to fight for the People of the 43rd Congressional District and our nation.
